Ticks are a major concern here in Upstate NY. These pests are significant spreaders of Lyme disease. Tick activity spikes during the spring months and ticks stay active right through the fall until temperatures drop below freezing over the winter.
When it comes to tick prevention and tick control, we have a few tools at our disposal. One of these tools is the Tick Box Tick Control System.
The Tick Box is a small, plastic box which contains an insecticide that is effective against ticks and bait that is attractive to mice and chipmunks. The bait will attract rodents living on and around your property to the Tick Box. As the rodent moves through the Tick Box, it will pass under a small applicator wick containing Fipronil insecticide, the same active ingredient found in popular flea and tick treatments prescribed by veterinarians for our household pets. A trace amount of the Fipronil is applied to a mouse or chipmunk that enters one of the boxes and will kill ticks for months without harming the mouse or other animal it comes into contact with, while protecting the mice for up to 40 days against any new ticks.

How effective is the Tick Box? Data from the CDC indicates the Tick Box Tick Control System can reduce tick populations by nearly 88% after the first year installed.
How many Tick Boxes do you need? We’ll assess your property to determine the proper number of Tick Boxes to protect it. In the spring, we’ll place tick boxes in the “tick zone” between landscaped and wooded areas where ticks and rodents are most abundant. We’ll also apply an organic residual application on your property. We will return in the summer to reinforce the boxes and organic application, and once again in the fall to remove your devices and apply a final organic application for the season.
