Warm weather is mosquito weather. Spring, summer and early fall is when mosquitoes are active. They are reproducing at a fast rate and they are looking for someone to bite. Mosquitoes can transmit several dangerous diseases such as West Nile, Zika and EEE so it is important to take them seriously. Thankfully, there are several actions that you can take to help reduce the mosquito population around your home.

To help prevent mosquitoes, we suggest the following best practices:

  • Eliminate areas of standing water around your home where mosquitoes could lay eggs. This includes bird baths, kiddie pools, clogged gutters, rain barrels, etc. Also make sure your pool is being properly maintained.
  • Minimize the amount of bright light around your home which can attract mosquitoes. Yellow light bulbs have been known to be less of an attractant than standard bright white light bulbs.
  • Keep your outdoor space free of overgrowth where mosquitoes can hang out and escape the hot sun.
  • Ask your local pest control professional to implement an appropriate mosquito prevention program around your home. This may include residual applications to landscapes and overgrowth, IGR dunks in ponds and ditches, and/or the In2Care Mosquito Trap.
