Warmer weather is coming and so are ticks! Did you know ticks can be active any day when temperatures are above freezing? March and April are prime months for increased tick activity in Upstate New York.

As you spend more time outdoors this spring, it’s important to remain vigilant. If you’re going into an area with significant vegetation, consider wearing long pants, long sleeves, and tick repellent. Be sure to check your clothes for ticks before you go back inside. Keep your yard well-maintained and free of overgrown vegetation, leaf piles and brush where ticks like to hang out and wait for a passerby to latch onto.

One of our favorite tick control methods is the Tick Box Tick Control System. The Tick Box is a small, plastic box which contains an insecticide that is effective against ticks and bait that is attractive to mice and chipmunks. The bait will attract rodents living on and around your property to the Tick Box. As the rodent moves through the Tick Box, it will pass under a small applicator wick containing a low-dose insecticide. The wick will lightly brush the rodent’s head or shoulders, applying traces of the insecticide. The insecticide won’t harm the rodent or any other animal that might touch or eat them, but it will kill the ticks that the rodents are carrying. In field trials, the Tick Box Tick Control System reduced tick populations by as much as 88% after just one year!
