Is there a mouse in the house? This is a frequent question during the winter in Upstate New York. Cold weather drives mice towards warm shelter like your house. Only needing a hole the size of a pencil eraser to squeeze through, it doesn’t take much to let a mouse inside.
Keep an eye out for these signs of mice inside your home this winter:
- Droppings which look like tiny dark grains of rice
- Dark grease marks around walls, floorboards and floors (especially corners and holes)
- Chewed holes in walls or baseboards
- Scratching noises
- Ammonia-like smell (which is urine)
- Nest made of shredded materials
When it comes to keeping your house free of mice, there are two major components – prevention and control. For rodent prevention, we recommend our Wildlife & Rodent Attention Protective System (WRAPS) which acts as a security blanket to help keep mice out in the first place. If rodents do find a way inside, that is when rodent control comes into play to effectively remove the mice.
