The Times Union recently reported that Anaplasmosis, a tick-borne illness, is on the rise in Washington, Warren, Saratoga and Rensselaer counties. From 2009 to 2018, New York State (excluding NYC) saw the number of cases triple and in 2018 almost 20% of tested ticks in Warren County carried the disease causing bacterium Anaplasma phagocytophilum.
This bacterium is spread to people via tick bites. Symptoms of Anaplasmosis include fever, headache, chills and muscle aches. Fortunately, Anaplasmosis is treatable with antibiotics.
